General Questions

Q: What is Butterfly Books?

A: Butterfly Books is a children’s book subscription service. Every month, we send quality books to children and teens across Canada.

Butterfly Books wants to grow a love of reading in children and teens by making getting a book an exciting event. We want to connect kids and teens with great books they might not find otherwise. We want to save parents the time and effort of trying to find the right books. We want people to be able to buy a gift they can feel good about giving.

How do we make getting a book exciting? We wrap it and add a personalised message. Then we mail it right to the child’s mailbox. So each month children can look forward to the day their package arrives in the mail. And when they unwrap their package, they find a book chosen just for them, about the things they love.

Butterfly Books also has a blog that recommends children’s books. The books we choose for the subscription service will always be different from the ones we recommend on the Butterfly Books blog. Packages from the Butterfly Books subscription service will not include therapeutic books.

 

Q: How does it work?

A: Just choose a 3, 6, or 12 month subscription and answer a few questions about the child. We’ll use the answers to choose a book for each month of the subscription.  Every month, the child will receive a gift wrapped book in the mail.

 

Q: What will the child receive?
A: Every month, the child will receive a beautifully gift wrapped book in the mail, chosen based on their interests and reading level.
Q: Can I choose when the subscription starts?
A: Yes! You can delay the start of any subscription for up to 3 months after you order. Make sure you write the start date you want in the Order Notes box when you check out.
Q: How do you choose the books?

A: Butterfly Books chooses books that both parents and children can feel good about. Each book has been carefully chosen for its quality, content, language, and characters. We look for books that reflect the Canadian experience, which means choosing books that reflect diversity. Parents can trust that the books their child receives will be both enjoyable and appropriate.

 

Q: What if I want to know what books you choose before you send them?
A: No problem! Just let us know on the personalization form, or send an email to hello@butterflychildrensbooks.com.
Q: Do you really choose different books for each child?
A: Yes! Every subscriber gets their own unique collection of books. We use the information you give us about the interests and reading level of the child as a guide when choosing books. Each child is different, so we choose books just for them.

Gift Subscriptions

Q: If I'm buying a subscription as a gift for someone, how will they know about it?
A: That’s up to you! For an additional fee, we’ll mail a card to the gift recipient. Or, we’ve made a card you can print at home. You can choose either of these options when you check out.
Q: What if I'm giving the subscription as a gift and I don’t know what kind of books the child likes?
A: No problem! If the child’s parents know about the gift before we send the first book, they can send us an email at hello@butterflychildrensbooks.com. If not, we’ll send a great first book, and they can get in touch afterwards if they’d like to share more information about the child.

Payment

Q: How can I pay for a subscription?
A: We process major credit cards, bank transfers, and balance transfers securely through PayPal.
Q: Can I pay monthly?
A: No, payment for the full subscription is due when you order it.
Q: Does the price include tax or is that extra?
A: 5% HST will be added when you check out.

Shipping

Q: How much do I pay for Shipping and Handling?
A: Shipping and Handling is the cost of all the things that need to be done to get a book ready for shipping, as well as the cost of getting it delivered. It costs $8.00 per month for subscriptions delivered in Canada.
Q: When will my order be shipped?
A: We send out books in the first 2 weeks of the month. So, unless you tell us differently, the order will be shipped within 2 weeks of ordering.

We’ll send the order on the same day each month so the child will know when to expect their book!

Q: How will my order be shipped?
A: We ship with Canada Post Regular Parcel Service. This lets us track your order and confirm delivery.
Q: Do you ship internationally?
A: Not at this time. But if you’re in the US or overseas, send us an email at hello@butterflychildrensbooks.com and we’ll see what we can do!

Returns

Q: If a book arrives severely damaged, will you replace it?
A: Yes we will. Let us know within 48 hours, and we’ll send another book, free of charge.
Q: What if the child already has the book you send them?
A: Because of the way we choose subscription books, it’s very rare for children to get books they already have! But, if we send a book the child already owns, let us know within 48 hours, send it back to us (we’ll pay for return shipping), and we’ll send another choice.
